AsmallnumberofPentagondocumentsontheRussia-Ukrainemilitaryconflict,includingsomemarked"topsecret",werepostedonTwitterandTelegramonWednesday.Sincethen,journalists,researchersandsocialmediasleuthshaveuncoveredadditionalclassifieddocumentspostedasearlyasMarch1onadditionalsites.

ButitisnottheleakthatisthemostsurprisingaspectabouttheclassifieddocumentsbuthowdeeplytheUnitedStatesisinvolvedintheconflictandhowmuchitisdoingtohelpUkraine.Despiteitsdenialofdirectinvolvement,theUSisalreadyadefactoparticipantintheconflict,consideringboththemilitaryandintelligenceaidithasofferedtoUkraine.

ThedocumentsthathaveappearedonsocialmediaonlyservetotelltheworldthattheUSispartofthehostilities,andwhatithasbeendoingismeanttomaketheconflictcontinue.Behindtherhetoricof"supportingUkraineagainstRussianaggression"istheUS"geopoliticalthinkingofdividingtheworldintotwocampsasitdidduringtheColdWar.

WithanothercampwhichissupposedtoposeathreatbothmilitarilyandideologicallytothecampheadedbytheUS,WashingtoncancontinuetomakethecasethattheEuropeanUnioncountriesmustuniteunderthebannerofNorthAtlanticTreatyOrganizationtoseektheprotectionoftheUS.

Onlyundersucha"duel-polar"globalframeworkwilltheUSbeabletomaintainitshegemony,whichhasbeenalmostshatteredbytheglobalizationoftheworldeconomyandtheincreasinglymultipolarizedworld.

Ifanything,themilitaryconflictbetweenRussiaandUkrainehasprovidedWashingtonwithaglimmerofhopethatitmaybepossibletomakethemilitaryconflictaprotractedwarandthusdividetheworldintotwocamps:theonethatsupportsUkraineandtheotherthatsupportsRussia.

ThatexplainswhyWashingtonhasmadenoeffortsatalltomediatebetweenthetwopartiesandhasexcludedanypossibilityofapoliticalsettlementoftheconflict.

ThinkwhatwillhappenifthewarcontinuesforyearstocomeandEUcountrieshavetocontinuetheirmilitaryaidtoUkraine,andtheworldisdeeplydividedbecauseoftheconflict.

Theglobalindustryandsupplychainswillbedisruptedorevenshattered.TheEU"seconomywillbeseriouslyaffected.ThedevelopmentoftheglobaleconomywhichhasalreadysufferedconsiderablybecauseoftheCOVID-19pandemicandRussia-Ukraineconflictwillseenohopeofrecovery.Neitherwillthoseinneedofhelpforsurvivalindevelopingcountriesseeanyhopeofshakingoffpoverty.

ItisbothselfishandcallousofWashingtontodowhateveritcantomakethehostilitiescontinueanddonothingtoseekapoliticalsettlementoftheconflict.GlobaleffortsareneededtobringUkraineandRussiatothenegotiationtableforapoliticalsolutionasearlyaspossible.Thatisthewaytomaintainworldpeaceanddevelopment,andthatiswhatChinaisdoing.
