Chinahasestablishedacarbonneutralizationworkingmechanismtoimplementthe"dualcarbon"goal,whichistopeakcarbondioxideemissionsbefore2030andachievecarbonneutralitybefore2060.Ithasclarifiedthetop-leveldesignofthe"dualcarbon"work,andformulatedimplementationplansinenergy,industry,transportationaswellasotherkeyareas.

Overthepastyears,Chinahastakenconcretestepstooptimizeitsenergymix,inwhichrenewableenergyhasplayedamoresignificantrole.

Datashowthattheinstalledcapacityofrenewableenergyhassurpassedonebillionkilowatts,accountingfor44.8percentofChina"soverallinstalledcapacity.Theinstalledcapacityofhydropower,windpower,andphotovoltaicpowereachexceeded300millionkilowatts,allrankingthehighestintheworld,accordingtoawhitepapertitledChina"sGreenDevelopmentintheNewEra,releasedbyChina"sStateCouncilInformationOfficeinJanuary.

From2012to2021,China"sannualenergyconsumptiongrowthrateof3percentsupportedanaverageeconomicgrowthrateof6.6percent,carbondioxideemissionsperunitofGDPdecreasedbyabout34.4percent,andenergyconsumptionperunitofGDPdecreasedby26.4percent,withacumulativesavingof1.4billiontonsofstandardcoal.

Inthemostlyarid,desert-cappedKenyancountyofGarissa,aChina-financedsolarpowerplant,thelargestsolarplantinEastandCentralAfrica,hassetKenyaonthepathofachievinggreenenergysufficiency,andbroughtbenefitstothousandsoffamiliesandbusinessessince2019.

"ChinaisthelargestsupplierofsolarenergyequipmentacrosstheworldandinAfricainparticular,"saidAjayMathur,directorgeneraloftheInternationalSolarAlliance.

WhilenotingthatmanysolarpanelsandbatteriesbeingusedinAfricaareofChineseorigin,MathurunderscoredChina"sinvolvementandhugepotentialintermsofrealizingAfrica"squestforsolarenergydevelopment.
